For some visa procedures, a dummy ticket might serve as proof of travel. Essentially, it acts as a stand-in to show that you have a planned itinerary but that you are exempt from buying a ticket until your visa is approved. A dummy ticket is not linked to a confirmed flight seat, but it will show the flight details (dates, places, and times) and perhaps even a booking reference number because it hasn't been purchased.
